We sign the Pregnancy Loss Pledge

Community Integrated Care is proud to have signed up to the Pregnancy Loss Pledge, a campaign developed by the Miscarriage Association.

The pledge is a national initiative which has been created to ensure colleagues feel supported and able to recover in a way that works best for them following a miscarriage. By signing the pledge, our charity demonstrates its commitment as an employer to support colleagues going through these devastating experiences.

Currently, there is no statutory entitlement to paid leave for people who lose a baby before 24 weeks of pregnancy in the UK.

By signing the pledge, Community Integrated Care has committed to:

  • Encourage a supportive work environment where people feel able to discuss and disclose pregnancy and/or loss without fear of being disadvantaged or discriminated against.
  • Understand and implement the rules around pregnancy-related leave, ensuring colleagues feel able to take the time off they need.
  • Show empathy and understanding towards people and their partners experiencing pregnancy loss
  • Implement a pregnancy loss policy or guidance, or ensure it is included in sickness, bereavement or other workplace policies.
  • Support people back to work by being responsive to their needs, showing flexibility wherever possible.

The Miscarriage Association is a national charity supporting people who have been affected by miscarriage, molar pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy. Founded in 1982, the organisation offers support and information to anyone affected by the loss of a baby in pregnancy, raising awareness and promoting best practice.

Teresa Exelby, Chief People Officer at Community Integrated Care said: “Pregnancy loss can be truly devastating for many families and sadly, it is more common than people may think. Often, miscarriage is a subject that is not discussed openly, meaning that many of the challenges it presents in the workplace are misunderstood or not recognised.”

“At Community Integrated Care, we want to offer compassionate policies to our colleagues that support wellbeing and really do make a difference in the moments that matter most. We’re incredibly proud to be backing this important campaign and by signing the Pregnancy Loss Pledge, we hope this demonstrates our commitment in making our charity a truly inclusive place to work.”

If you have or are experiencing this loss, please do reach out and talk to someone. The Miscarriage Association offer a helpline which you can find the details of by clicking here.
