We Celebrate Pride Month

Throughout June, Community Integrated Care is proud to have celebrated Pride Month, to show our support for the LGBTQIA+ community and raise awareness around the different ways our colleagues can get involved.

As part of this, our charity has been pleased to share a special Pride webpage – featuring key resources, events and ways to show solidarity during this all-important month.

We have also been delighted to hear from our Wellbeing, Diversity and Inclusion Specialist, Anita Amurun, who shared the following:

As Pride Month draws to a close, I want to extend the warmest of wishes to the LGBTQIA+ community. I hope you’ve felt empowered and championed and are reminded of the beauty, resilience and richness you embody and exude.

Pride Month originated from the Stonewall Uprising in June 1969, a pivotal and transformative moment in LGBTQIA+ history. The courageous individuals who fearlessly confronted discrimination at the Stonewall Inn in New York fuelled a movement which has been a catalyst for change all around the world.

While Pride has evolved into a global celebration of equity, resilience and authenticity, it’s also a call for action. Although there have been many triumphs, there is still more to do. I hope this month has served as an inspiration for all and a reminder that together and united as one, our capabilities are boundless in igniting change and creating a world where we can all feel truly seen, valued and loved for whom we are, irrespective of our sexual orientation or gender identity.”

During June, we were also pleased to share the story of Chris – a person we support in Sheffield. Our colleagues have been supporting Chris to celebrate his identity as a gay man. We’re delighted to see Chris live his life to the fullest!

Finally, we have been thrilled to see our people enjoying Pride events throughout June. Along with our special Pride disco on What-To-Do.co.uk, Support Worker Carol Fox marched at Edinburgh Pride with her wife and James, a person we support in Dalkeith. Take a look at all the highlights in the video below:

Thank you to all our people who shared their experiences throughout this significant month. Beyond Pride Month, we aim to continue on our mission to become the most diverse and inclusive organisation we can be, inspired by our A Place I Belong plan.
