Lord Mayor joins Celebration of Diversity

Colleagues and people supported at Community Integrated Care’s Gilmorton Close service in Leicester were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Leicester on Friday (29th July), to join a special celebration of diversity.

Cllr George Cole took time out of his busy mayoral duties to visit Gilmorton, as part of the service’s Celebrating Diversity Day which saw our colleagues host a fun-filled party for the people we support, contributing national dishes from as far afield as Sierra Leone, Spain, India and Ghana.

The Lord Mayor jumped right into the celebrations, even joining members of the team and people we support on their much-loved trampoline!

From delicious foods to fun party games, the event provided a fantastic opportunity for the people we support to make new friends, learn about different cultures, and speak with the Lord Mayor himself!

Praising the staff for their work at the Close, the Lord Mayor said: “This is where the better part of human nature steps in. Everyone is entitled to a life filled with happiness and joy and where dignity is respected. I have nothing but praise for the work the Community Integrated Care team does here.”

Gillian Edwards, Service Leader at Gilmorton Close, said: “When it comes to integration and inclusion, Leicester is one of the most diverse cities in the country and that is what makes it such a great city to live and work in. Our residents and the people who support them reflect that diversity and make Gilmorton such a wonderful place to live and work.”
