Charnwood Lodge Top Marks In Inspectorate

Colleagues and people supported at Charnwood Lodge Care Home in Dumfries are celebrating following their recent Care Inspectorate visit, which rated the home as ‘Very Good’. Charnwood Lodge

The care home is delighted to have received a score of 6 for ‘How well the home supports and plans care’ which is an ‘Excellent’, and a 5 for ‘How well the home support people’s well-being’ awarding them an overall rating of 5.

The inspectors evaluated how people supported at the home get the most out of life – many residents were able to engage in the regular exercise groups and colleagues supported activities. This recognition was also received last year at the Scottish Care Home Awards where the home picked up the ‘Meaningful Activities’ title for their innovative approach to physical activities.

The electronic planning system ‘Nourish’, which has been introduced in Charnwood Lodge, also proved to be a success with inspectors. The Care Inspectorate commented that this was extremely helpful to colleagues with the team being able to quickly build a picture of a person’s needs and wishes. They concluded that overall, care plans at the home represented excellent record keeping which supported the delivery of great care and support.

The report also contained positive feedback from people using the service and their relatives. Comments included “Since day one, my relative has been happy and contented at Charnwood, the staff, without exception, treat her with care, compassion and always with dignity. My relative gets on well with staff and the attention she gets is quite exceptional.”

Kerry Higgins, Charnwood Lodge’s Care Home Manager said, “Everyone at Charnwood Lodge is delighted with the latest inspection report. Our team works so hard to provide the highest possible standard of care for our residents and we are delighted to have been recognised by the Care Inspectorate and rated ‘Very Good’ overall.”

Tracy Johnson, Operations Director at Community Integrated Care said, “I’m very proud of the whole team at Charnwood Lodge who work hard to support and care for our residents with compassion, dignity and respect. This ‘Very Good’ rating is testament to their hard work, dedication and commitment. Congratulations to all the team.”

The report follows the home’s recent success on carehome.co.uk, the sector’s leading care home comparison website, where the home recently achieved 9.7 out of 10 rating.
