Charnwood Lodge Feature in Mental Welfare Commission Video

Charnwood Lodge Care Home in Dumfries has featured in a special video produced by the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland which selected the Dumfries & Galloway IDEAS Team as its winner of the Care and Support of People with Dementia Award at its ‘Principles into Practice’ Awards and Conference this year.

The Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland is an independent organisation with a range of duties under mental health and incapacity law, with statutory duties that are established to safeguard the interests of people who are incapacitated under the Mental Health Act or the Adults with Incapacity Act in Scotland. Their Principles into practice aims to promote and celebrate the principles and best practice of the Scottish mental health and incapacity legislation.

The NHS Dumfries and Galloway Interventions for Dementia: Education, Assessment and Support (IDEAS) team. The IDEAS team have provided specialist training to Charnwood Lodge’s staff and offered advice and guidance to support a major refurbishment of the home, transforming it into a more dementia-friendly living environment.
