British Gas Employees Help Rejuvenate Glenwood Care Home Garden

Ten British Gas employees volunteered their time to help Glenwood Care Home, which supports people with complex learning disabilities, to enhance the gardens to create a wonderful space for sensory activity and relaxation.

British Gas staff renovate Glenwood Care HomeGlenwood Care Home, which is home to ten people we support, and also provides respite support, has recently undergone a major refurbishment, making the home a more comfortable and pleasant place to live.

On Tuesday 26 July, the British Gas employees volunteered their time as part of the company’s ‘Giving Day’, a scheme where employees donate their time to help good causes in the community. As well as British Gas donating their time, Glenwood also received a £25 Voucher from Wilkinson’s, Halton Borough Council donated the wood chippings, and Widnes-based Grace Construction Products donated garden furniture.

The people we support and our staff team also joined in the activity sessions at the home – with the garden refurbishment being a real team effort.

Karen Hayes, Service Leader for Glenwood, says: “It means so much for the staff and people we support to have our garden brought to life. We’re really going to enjoy spending time in the fresh air, in beautiful surrounds. On behalf of all the staff and people we support, I’d like to thank British Gas for choosing to spend their Giving Day at Glenwood, and also the local businesses who donated items for our garden – what great community spirit!”

Gareth Hennon, Service Manager for British Gas, says: “It’s been a pleasure to have my team come down to Glenwood to help spruce up their garden. We’ve helped deal with the overgrown areas; planted colourful and vibrant flowers, and built them a garden table and chairs. It’s been great fun and a very rewarding day for the British Gas team. We hope the staff and people supported at Glenwood enjoy their new-look garden.”
