We Champion Disability History Month at Parliament

Representatives from Community Integrated Care, were proud to attend a special reception at Speaker’s House in London on Tuesday 18th November, in celebration of Disability History Month.

Hosted by Caroline Nokes, MP and Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, the reception brought together politicians, public figures, advocates and organisations committed to supporting people with disabilities, honouring their contributions across the UK and raising awareness of the challenges they face.

Amongst representatives were Matt Price and Katie Richardson –  who have previously been supported by the charity through accessible development programmes that provide life-changing opportunities for people with a learning disability and autistic people.

They were also joined by charity ambassador and former NFL and Rugby Union star, Christian Scotland-Williamson, and International athlete and disability advocate, Freya Levy. Both have a connection with the charity’s work through its award-winning online community, www.What-To-Do.co.uk – delivering Inspiration Sessions that empower people to build their confidence and aspirations.

Matt and Katie spoke about their successes in gaining employment opportunities through their experiences with Community Integrated Care – with Katie, who is now a professional photographer, presenting framed prints of her work to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons.

Briony Davies, Partnerships Development Manager at Community Integrated Care, also joined representatives. She said, “Marking Disability History Month in Parliament is a powerful reminder of the progress we’ve made and the work we still have to do as a society. To have this occasion celebrated on such a significant scale, with so many leaders and decision-makers in the room, was truly inspiring. Matt and Katie shared incredible stories of achievement and lived experience, showing what’s possible when we invest in inclusion and opportunity.”
