Blackpool Tower comes to Dumfries

Residents at Charnwood Lodge Care Home in Dumfries recently welcomed special visitors from Blackpool Tower to the home as part of their 125th Birthday celebrations.

Blackpool was a popular holiday resort for many in years gone by and the famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom provided an opportunity for holiday makers to trip the light fantastic! Blackpool Tower’s General Manager, Kenny Mew who himself is from Dumfries wanted to bring a slice of Blackpool to those who can no longer visit the resort and chose Charnwood Lodge to join their celebrations.

Staff from Blackpool Tower brought Afternoon Tea and tutor Ali King gave them some top dancing tips to the sounds of some of the most famous tunes from years gone by.

Kenny Mew, Blackpool Towers General Manager said “The reaction of residents was fantastic and has made the whole day so worthwhile. We wanted to make sure our 125th year was celebrated with some of the people from yesteryear. It is thanks to them that we’re still here all these years on.”

Kerry Higgins, Care Home Manager at Charnwood Lodge said “We are delighted that Charnwood Lodge was chosen as one of only three care homes in Scotland to be joined by the staff from Blackpool Tower and share in their special celebrations. Everyone had a fantastic afternoon and were chatting about it well into the evening. Thank you to everyone from Blackpool Tower.”

Alison Tait, Community Integrated Care’s Chief Operating Officer commented, “Thank you to all the team at Blackpool Tower for letting us share your 125th Birthday celebrations. Everyone was delighted and it certainly brought back some wonderful memories for our residents and stimulated lots of happy memories from visits to the resort from their younger days.”
