New Extra Care Scheme for Ashbrow
On Friday 12 September, a brand-new scheme celebrated its official opening. Ash View, a new Extra Care service in Ashbrow, Huddersfield, offers a modern, flexible alternative to traditional housing for people with a variety of support needs.
Developed in partnership by Kirklees Council, Ash View provides 50 self-contained, fully accessible flats designed to support residents across many unique needs, including learning disabilities, mental health conditions, physical disabilities, and age-related health requirements. The scheme balances independence and privacy with a safe, supportive home and round-the-clock assistance.
The launch event brought together residents, staff, councillors, and local community members for the official opening, including the Mayor of Kirklees, Cllr Elizabeth Smaje, and Chief Executive of Kirklees Council, Steve Mawson. Attendees took part in tours around the scheme, met staff and residents, and witnessed the positive impact Ash View is already having in the community.
Councillor Moses Crook, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Transport and Housing, said:
“Ash View is exactly the kind of forward-thinking design and support that people in Kirklees deserve; modern, adaptable, and at the heart of the local community. We’re proud to have partnered with Community Integrated Care to bring this scheme to life. It marks another key step in our commitment to giving Kirklees residents the independence everyone deserves.”
Edd Terrey, Managing Director at Community Integrated Care, said:
“We’re delighted to see Ash View officially open and to celebrate with the people we support, colleagues, partners, and local people. It’s clear that the service is already becoming a thriving community, truly shaped by the people who live here, and will make a real difference to people’s lives for many years to come.”
Extra Care housing offers an ideal mix of self-reliance and support in a stable home environment, addressing the growing demand for housing options that adapt as people’s care needs evolve through life.
