General Election 2024
The 2024 General Election will be taking place on Thursday 4th July. A big part of our Best Lives Possible vision is empowering people to play an active role in society. Voting supports citizenship, and everyone should have the chance to make their mark, if they choose to.
Frontline colleagues – if the people you support are registered to vote, it’s so important that you ensure they meet all the key voting deadlines, and they have all the information they need to make a decision around voting.
Here is a quick summary of the key events, resources and deadlines you need to be aware of:
Promoting our Voting Resources
Access our Promoting our Voting webpage for useful resources on supporting people to make their own decisions around voting and to get out and vote if they choose to. This includes a guide for Support Workers, links to easy-read materials and a practice voting card to get prepared.
Voice Groups
Our Voice Groups are a fantastic opportunity for the people we support to meet up, talk about the issues important to them, and share their feedback with our Quality team, to improve the support we provide across our charity. Following the announcement of the General Election, we have scheduled more Voice Groups so the people we support can come together and discuss voting. Sessions are continuing into the week commencing 24th June – we would encourage all the people we support to come along, if they would like to!
Email VoiceGroup@c-i-c.co.uk to register your interest on the behalf of someone you support.
Key Deadlines
Don’t forget, there are lots of important voting deadlines coming up very soon:
- 5pm on Wednesday 26th June – deadline to apply for a voter authority certificate (to vote in-person if you do not have a valid photo ID to show at the polling station)
- 5pm on Wednesday 26th June – deadline to apply for a proxy vote online.
