What To Do Wins Care Innovation Award
Community Integrated Care was delighted to see www.What-To-Do.co.uk awarded Care Innovator of the Year at the Great British Care Awards Yorkshire & Humberside on Friday 7th October.
What-To-Do.co.uk is Community Integrated Care’s ground-breaking online community for people who draw on care and support, empowering people to follow their dreams and build skills, confidence and social connections. Every week, it delivers engaging sessions that create meaningful moments – often leading to outcomes that last a lifetime.
Too often, people who draw on social care are isolated, excluded and offered inferior experiences or opportunities. What To Do challenges this inequality by connecting individuals with cultural icons, leading brands, and expert facilitators. It acts as a bridge from care services to new passions and dreams in the wider community.
To date, the programme has delivered over 35,000 hours of free engagement – including sessions on citizenship and human rights, such as understanding voting rights and working with national and local police forces on how to navigate the community safely.
Other unmissable highlights have included: dance workshops with stars of Strictly Come Dancing; fitness classes with the Lionesses; cook-alongs with renowned chefs like Rosemary Shrager and stars of the bake off; conservation and nature discovery with the Wild Isles team at the RSPB; and an upcoming live Broadway performance with the Dance Captain from Wicked, celebrating the release of Wicked 2.
Judges said, “The inspiring team [behind What To Do] creates meaningful experiences for people with disabilities through engaging online classes, including sessions with well-known personalities. Their creativity, dedication, and perseverance provide unique opportunities that promote inclusion, engagement, and empowerment.”
John Hughes, Director of Partnerships and Communities at Community Integrated Care, said, “This achievement reflects our deep commitment to bringing the very best opportunities into social care, creating experiences that are not only high-quality but co-produced with the people we support, ensuring they truly reflect their interests, goals and aspirations.”
“What To Do is about more than just activities – it’s about broadening people’s communities and connections, and recognising the incredible talents and contributions of people with disabilities. It provides a platform where people can explore important topics like human rights and citizenship, while also connecting the wider social care sector to the worlds of culture, sport, and the arts.”
“We’re proud to have built a space that empowers people to dream big, develop new skills, and be seen for all they have to offer. And we’re incredibly grateful to the amazing partners, public figures and organisations who have joined us in championing inclusion and innovation in social care.”
