Redbridge House, a new Supported Living Service in Portsmouth, opened its doors on 17th July with a special visit from the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Gerald Vernon-Jackson, to mark the occasion.

The service, which is part of national social care charity, Community Integrated Care, will support seven young adults with a range of support needs including learning disabilities and autism, to live independently in their own homes.

Previously a 6-bed older person supported living service, Redbridge House has been refurbished by Portsmouth City Council to provide an adaptive and inclusive supported living environment. The service will aid young people as they navigate adulthood and living in their own home for the first time.

The launch event saw people supported, their loved ones, colleagues from our charity, and local council representatives come together, as well as a special visit from the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Gerald Vernon-Jackson.

Guests had the opportunity to tour the new space, meet our team and celebrate the opening of the service. They also had the chance to connect with colleagues across the local authority and begin collaborative planning to support the transition of the people supported into their new homes.

Caroline Robins, Head of Operations at Community Integrated Care, said, “We are so proud to be opening a new service in the area, supporting more people across Portsmouth. It was fantastic to meet with our colleagues from Portsmouth City Council and the families of the people supported, and to begin planning together to support people as they move into their new homes. We’d also like to thank the Lord Mayor for joining us to celebrate and find out more about the impact that Redbridge House will have for local people with support needs. We can’t wait to see everyone move in and thrive in their new homes.”

Councillor Steve Pitt, Leader of the Council with responsibility for Culture, Regeneration & Economic Development said: “This project shows the dedication and commitment of multiple teams across the council – showcasing “one council” working. From identifying the building and overseeing its refurbishment, to coordinating care and support services, every step has been guided by a shared vision and provides a place for these young adults to live independently.”
