Katie Showcases Work at Open Eye Gallery
Katie Richardson, a photographer from Warrington, celebrated a major achievement as one of the lead artists featured in a recent exhibition from Open Eye Gallery – ‘Unsung Heroes: Celebrating Liverpool’s Grassroots Boxing.’
Based in Warrington, Katie is a talented sports photographer who first connected with Open Eye Gallery while receiving support from Community Integrated Care’s Inclusive Volunteering and community programmes.
Coinciding with the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, the exhibition was part of a collaboration between Culture Liverpool and Open Eye Gallery. Hosted at St George’s Hall, it shined a spotlight on grassroots boxing and the people who make a lasting impact in their communities.
As a photographer, Katie specialises in capturing the intensity and emotion of grassroots athletes and community sports. Known for her sharp eye for action, she has built a strong reputation for telling powerful visual stories that celebrate determination, teamwork, and local pride.
Since being supported by the charity, Katie has gone on to work professionally in sports photography for major sporting events, including the Super League. Her work has been seen by hundreds of people, cementing her status as an exciting emerging photographer.
At the exhibition, Katie’s photographs featured alongside the work of lead photographer, Emma Case, and filmmaker, Susannah Fletcher. Together, they documented the stories of Liverpool’s boxing community, creating a powerful and inspiring exhibition.
Katie said, “To have been part of this project has been a dream come true. To work within the community meeting some amazing people and working alongside Emma and Suzanne and the Open Eye Gallery was just amazing – an experience I will never forget. I never imagined to see my work exhibited in such an incredible space. I’m really proud of this collection and everything it represents, and I hope my journey shows others that, with the right support and opportunities, you can achieve amazing things.”
John Hughes, Community Integrated Care’s Director of Partnerships and Communities, said, “Katie’s journey is nothing short of inspirational. She is an outstanding photographer whose work captures both the passion of sport and the spirit of community. It has been a privilege to see her talent grow and to celebrate her achievements. Katie’s success is also a powerful reminder of how access to accessible arts programmes and having the right community support can unlock incredible potential. We couldn’t be prouder of her.”
