Local MP joins celebration for new Supported Living Service
Owl View, a new supported living service in Skelton, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, celebrated the opening of its doors on Thursday 15th May, bringing members of the community, including local MP Luke Myer, together for an open day event.
The service will support nine adults with a range of support needs including learning disabilities and mental health conditions, to live independently in their own homes.
Formerly a GP practice, the building has been renovated by Riverside Homes, into individual apartments. The transformation of the building was made possible through a partnership between Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, Inclusion Housing, Riversdale Homes and Community Integrated Care.
The homes have been designed to suit the needs of people supported, including being equipped with smart technology, such as fall sensors and door opening systems, to support people’s independence.
Already, six people have moved into the service and were proud to welcome family, friends and members of the community to celebrate their new homes with an official ribbon cutting and afternoon tea.
Jennifer Haynes, Head of Operations for Community Integrated Care, said, “It was fantastic to attend the launch of Owl View and see how the building has been transformed into an incredible home for local people. The day was really joyful and centred around the people we support, who were so proud to showcase their new homes to friends, family and the wider community.”
She continued, “It was also inspiring to see the community come together—from our partners and colleagues, to families and neighbours— and we were really grateful to welcome our local MP, Luke Myer, to join us in officially opening the service. Owl View is so much more than just a place to live—it’s a space where people will be empowered to live their best lives, with personalised support that enables them to thrive. We’re excited to see the people we support flourish in their new homes.”
Cabinet Member for Adults at Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, Cllr Lisa Robson, said: “It’s truly heartwarming to see the transformation of this building into such a vibrant and supportive place that people can proudly call home. Owl View centre is a brilliant example of what can be achieved through strong partnerships and shared commitment to empowering individuals to live independently. This service will make a real difference in the lives of the people it supports, and I’m delighted that we as a Council could play a part in making it happen.”
