Amandajayne’s fundraising takes flight
Amandajayne Swann, one of our charity’s Support Workers based at Dawson Close in Nottingham, has taken a daring leap for a cause close to her heart. Fundraising for The Care Workers Charity, Amandajayne challenged herself to take on the longest and fastest zip line in the UK, flying over Penrhyn Quarry in North Wales at speeds reaching up to 100 miles per hour.
After a bumpy 20-minute journey in an army truck up a steep quarry track, Amandajayne took to the zip wire and launched into the sky, covering a mile-long descent in just 50 seconds. Her goal is to raise funds and awareness for care workers across the UK and to inspire others in the care sector to take action.
Her passion stems from her own remarkable journey. Having overcome severe health challenges herself, she is a vocal advocate for people with disabilities, social care colleagues and unpaid carers, consistently pushing for greater inclusion and support.
Amandajayne’s commitment to The Care Workers’ Charity extends far beyond fundraising. As a member of the organisation’s Advisory Board, she plays an active role in shaping its strategic direction and advocating for frontline care professionals. Through her efforts, she supports those in the sector with vital financial aid and practical resources.
Amandajayne reflected, “We’re always doing things for others as care workers, but this was something I could do both for myself and to support a good cause. It might have only taken 50 seconds to get down the zip line after a four hour drive to North Wales, but it was worth every moment. You can do it – even if it’s just one step, you’re still doing it! Whether it’s jumping out of a plane or walking across the Himalayas, do it for a cause and make a few friends along the way.”
The daring fundraiser, who has been raising money for the Air Ambulance for over 40 years, hopes to complete many more adventures. With the support of her family and colleagues at Community Integrated Care, she successfully reached her fundraising goal. Now, Amandajayne hopes her story will inspire others in the care sector to discover their own challenges and encourage others to take on their own fundraising adventures.
