Volunteers take on ParaVolley Silver Leagues!

A group of Community Integrated Care’s Inclusive Volunteers have enjoyed incredible opportunities as part of the ParaVolley Europe Silver Leagues in Nottingham this month!

Hosted by British Volleyball in partnership with Volleyball England, The University of Nottingham, The National Lottery and Nottingham City Council, the event saw Team GB play an accessible and inclusive version of the sport, called sitting volleyball, against some of the best teams in Europe.

Community Integrated Care’s Inclusive Volunteering programme offers a brilliant opportunity for people supported by the charity to learn new skills, all whilst volunteering at a range of incredible sporting events. Previous experiences have included the Rugby League World Cup 2021, UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 and 2022 World Gymnastics Championships.

In preparation for the tournament, our Inclusive Volunteers were honoured to create some fantastic gifts for the athletes, including handmade soaps, decorative stones, and good luck cards, led by our partners at Warrington Wolves Foundation.

To top off the special weekend, participants were excited to meet sitting volleyball athletes, John Worrall and Andrea Green, spending time with the sports stars to share their own experiences.

On this exciting event, Kurtis Marsh, Sports Inclusion Team Leader, shared, “It has been fantastic to see our Inclusive Volunteers participating in some fabulous activities around the events at the ParaVolley Europe Silver Leagues. From trying out sitting volleyball, to setting up the venue and completing personal development sessions, it is clear that each of our volunteers will walk away from the event with some brilliant new skills and lifelong memories.”

“The event has given the people we support the opportunity to meet new people, get active, and meet leading athletes. As a testament to this incredible experience, one volunteer has even bought a volleyball and a net to continue the new passion he discovered at the games this weekend!”

“Thank you to our partners at the Warrington Wolves Foundation for their support in leading the activities and thank you to British Volleyball and Volleyball England, who offered us this wonderful opportunity. Everybody has had such a brilliant time!”

With further volunteering opportunities taking place throughout the year, volunteers are excited to put their new skills into practice – having an amazing impact, even beyond this tournament.
