Joy Elliot named Chef of the Year

Joy Elliot, Head Chef at Carlingwark House Care Home has received yet another honour to add to her impressive haul, picking up the Chef of the Year Award from Community Integrated Care’s catering partner, Woodwards.

Joy Elliot collects Chef of the Year prizesWoodwards announced Joy Elliot as Community Integrated Care’s Best Chef by presenting her with £100 Marks & Spencer gift voucher, a brand new set of professional knives and exclusive chef whites. Such is her commitment to the residents at Carlingwark Care Home and the dedicated to her team, Joy donated the vouchers to be used by residents, and has kindly given the knife set to the service so that it can be enjoyed by all of the kitchen staff!

This is the latest of many successes for Joy, who in 2013 collected the Nutrition and Hydration award at the Great North East Care Awards, which are part of the Great British Care Awards. Just a matter of weeks after this success, she picked up the Hospitality Award at Community Integrated Care’s 25th Anniversary awards.

Joy’s successes come as a result of her utmost commitment to supporting the dietary needs of everyone at Carlingwark for the last twelve years. She is motivated, committed and passionate, not only about her own role but in every aspect of the lives of the people we support at Carlingwark. Joy regularly liaises with the people support at the service and constantly endeavours to meet their dietary requirements and preferences by trying out new recipes.

Knowing that the appropriate nutrition and hydration is integral to supporting older people with age-related conditions, Joy takes it upon herself to be knowledgeable and up-to-date on conditions effecting residents, such as dementia.

Community Integrated Care’s Regional Manager for Dumfries, Martin Holmes, says: “I’d like to congratulate Joy for this very special achievement – her commitment to her role as Head Chef, and to leading her team is incredible.”

“Joy’s role is so much more than ‘nice food’ – her great work and clinical knowledge of the nutritional needs of our residents has a huge impact on their health and quality of life.”
