Community Integrated Care was awarded a top accolade, and was shortlisted for a further six awards, at last week’s Great British Care Awards! The ceremony took place at Birmingham’s ICC on Friday 8th March.
Friday evening saw Andrea Lyon, Service Leader at Eliot Gardens in Wigan, take home the ‘Housing with Care Award’. Eliot Gardens is an Extra Care scheme, which supports up to 35 people predominately with mental health concerns and learning disabilities. Over the past year, Andrea has held several inspiring events for the people we support, such as the Winter Olympics, promoting social inclusion for those in the service.
Andrea was described by the judges as “demonstrating a strong drive to deliver a person-centered service, showcasing a number of examples of how her and her team have made a difference to the quality of individual lives.” She was congratulated by the judges for being a very worthy winner.
Community Integrated Care were nominated for a further six prestigious accolades on the night, including the significant ‘Care Employer of the Year’ Award, with our North East region picking this award up in the regional awards in December last year. Two of our exceptional teams were also nominated – Dawson Close in Eastwood, Nottingham were shortlisted for the ‘Home Care Team Award’ and West Lodge in Tyne & Wear for the ‘Care Team Award’.
Other shortlisted nominees included Vikki Tarbuck, Support Worker at Eliot Gardens, for the ‘Care Newcomer Award’ and Seb Kolbadi, Senior Support Worker at Magna Road for the ‘Personalisation Award’.
The Great British Care Awards celebrate excellence in social care and pay tribute to the incredible individuals who change the lives of the people they support every day. The awards are one of the top honours in the sector, with the event being hosted by television star, Alison Hammond and performer, Ray Quinn!
Mark Adams, CEO, commented on the nominations and the winning honour saying, “It is fantastic to see the exceptional work of our colleagues being recognised by this prestigious awards ceremony – they truly are the unsung heroes of society and deserve every accolade awarded to them. We are incredibly proud of Andrea for winning the ‘Housing with Care Award’, along with all other shortlisted nominees, for making a huge difference to the lives of the people we support.”
