We Celebrate #ScotLDWeek23

This week, Community Integrated Care has been proud to celebrate Scottish Learning Disability Week, to recognise the incredible contributions people with learning disabilities make to society.

This year, the theme is #LeadToChange – exploring the ways that people with learning disabilities exercise leadership, both within their own lives and their local communities. In line with this, we were pleased to highlight some of our people, who exemplify this important theme.

For our first spotlights, we featured Kevin and Shane – two people we support in Aberdeenshire. Kevin and Shane have recently completed some fantastic voluntary work, with Kevin volunteering at Buchan Community Farm, and Shane leading his own stall at a local gala.

We also shared the story of Clare Mcmurchie, Regional Manager in Scotland, who has been shortlisted for three awards for her work supporting people with learning disabilities. In celebration of the nominations, Clare was featured in The Alloa and Hillfoots Advertiser – for the full story, click here.

As part of the week, we also highlighted Sarah, a person we support who leads the way in her Care and Support Planning. Sarah is especially active in developing her support, alongside her Support Worker, Victoria Cosgrove, and even raises money for charity each year.

On Thursday, some of the people we support in Clackmannanshire had the pleasure of sharing their experiences at a special Scottish Learning Disability Week fair, too. Bringing together local health professionals, this was a brilliant opportunity for the people we support to share their insights around supported living.

To round off the week, we heard from Quality Advisor, Erin O’Neill. Drawing on her own experience of being supported by our charity, Erin shared what it means to be a Quality Advisor and lead developments in the support we offer.

Thank you to each of the brilliant people whose stories we’ve featured this week – your leadership is inspiring!
