Success at Scottish Care Home Awards

Community Integrated Care was delighted to celebrate winning a prestigious accolade at this year’s Scottish Care Home Awards on Friday (18th November) at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.

Hosted by Scottish Care, the Care Home Awards celebrate the very best in social care across Scotland, with a particular focus on care home settings.

We were delighted to see Karen Wood, our charity’s Regional Manager for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, take home the highly coveted ‘Leadership Award’, celebrating her incredible commitment to the sector and outstanding leadership skills.

Karen manages a broad range of services across her region, from Care Homes to Supported Living Services. Moving between them effortlessly, she shares best practice and nurtures inter-team support, and has been hailed by colleagues as an exemplary leader.

On the evening, we were also proud to have another fantastic awards finalist. Our team from Lismore Care Home in West Lothian were runners up for the Palliative Care Award, recognising their dedication and selflessness to a person they support who sadly required end-of-life care.

Community Integrated Care’s Head of Operations for Scotland, Linsey Gallacher, said, “We are incredibly proud of Karen for winning the Leadership Award at the Scottish Care Home Awards. Karen has played an integral role in shaping our charity’s deregistration programme which promotes security of tenure for the people we support, which in turn offers increased independence and greater financial stability, creating opportunities for people to become full and active citizens in their communities. This award recognises the small amount of care homes left in Karen’s area and her ability to keep them innovative and moving forward. It is a testament to her commitment to the social care sector and the incredible work she does on a day-to-day basis to ensure her teams provide the best support possible.”

She continued, “We’re also very proud of our team from Lismore Care Home for being shortlisted for the Palliative Care Award on the evening. They went above and beyond when the person they support needed them most, maintaining dignity and respect, and ensuring the person they support’s wishes were met during a really challenging time.”

Karen Wood, said, “It was amazing to attend Scottish Care’s Care Home Awards and celebrate so many fantastic colleagues from across our care sector in Scotland. I was over the moon and really humbled to win the Leadership Award. Everybody who was shortlisted was so talented and deserving. I’d like to thank my amazing teams across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. We’ve had a really challenging couple of years in social care and without our amazing frontline teams, we wouldn’t be able to keep providing support so that people can live fulfilling and happy lives. I appreciate each and every one of them, and for me, this award is really a celebration of all of their achievements too!”
