Relative Praises St Luke’s on BBC Radio 4

John Timms, the 75-year-old granddad from Runcorn, who recently completed a 100-mile trek in memory of his late wife to raise money for St Luke’s, praised the home for their excellent dementia care on BBC Radio 4.

John Timms Radio 4 InterviewJohn’s wife Marian was cared for by St Luke’s and the money he raised will fund a new sensory garden at the home called Marian’s Retreat. Last week, John presented St Luke’s with a £3000 cheque at a fun-filled garden party, where star Vikings player Gil Dudson was guest of honour.

John’s uplifting story has proved very popular with the local community, newspapers and radio and BBC Radio 4 heard about John’s experience with dementia and invited him to take part in the popular ‘You and Yours’ programme on Tuesday 16th August.

The programme featured comments from The Alzheimer’s Society, as well as people living with dementia, carers and relatives, all sharing their experiences of dementia care.

John praised St Luke’s for the care they offered his wife saying: “These dementia care homes, they’re absolutely wonderful. They looked after her, they looked after the family, and there’s not enough of them around.”

John told listeners about St Luke’s excellent care provision saying: “They were there for her twenty-four seven, with her until her dying breath. It was absolutely wonderful, I can’t praise them enough and they were there for the family too.”
