Our GB Care Awards finalists!

In a celebration of the very best in social care, the National Finals of the Great British Care Awards are just around the corner. Following the achievements of our colleagues at the regional awards, we are proud to announce the finalists from our charity, from across the UK, who will represent us at the final ceremony on Friday 18th March.

Greenacres – Putting People First Award
Our colleagues from Greenacres in South Chailey will stand as finalists for the Putting People First Award, in recognition of their spectacular work supporting people with autism and learning disabilities. Nominated for their extraordinary persistence in delivering the highest level of care, despite the struggles of opening during the pandemic, the team have been praised for their inspirational person-centred support – always focussing on the person and not their label.

Bailey Street – Putting People First Award
Also nominated as finalists for the Putting People First Award are our Bailey Street service, who support three women with complex needs in Nottingham. During lockdown, the team worked creatively and tirelessly to come up with new activities so the women they support could continue living their best lives possible, even given the difficulties of the pandemic.

Wensley Street – Care Team Award
From Sheffield, our Wensley Street service will appear as finalists for the Care Team Award – an accolade celebrating a group with a strong shared vision, an excellent communication process and passionate dedication to the dignity and privacy of the people they support. Over the last 18 months, Wensley Street have shown incredible teamwork, truly rising to the challenges of the pandemic, so that the people they support could continue to access many fulfilling opportunities.

Graham Buckless – Care Home Worker Award
Graham Buckless will represent Community Integrated Care as a finalist for the Care Home Worker Award. Though he had only very recently joined Community Integrated Care, Graham showed immense dedication when he chose to move into his service to reduce the risk of COVID infections and continue providing the best possible care, despite staff shortages.

Fiona Barrie-Higgins – Outstanding Contribution to Social Care Award
Last but certainly not least, Fiona Barrie-Higgins, Regional Manager in Scotland, will stand as a finalist for the highly coveted accolade of the evening – the Outstanding Contribution to Social Care Award. This recognises both her amazing work in social care over the past 20 years, as well as her adaptability and leadership during the very peak of the pandemic, when Fiona managed up to 80% of her colleagues self-isolating, whilst also supporting all 10 of her other services.

The final awards ceremony will be held at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham on 18th March. We wish the best of luck to all of our fantastic finalists!
