MSP for South Scotland, Emma Harper, Visits School Close

MSP Emma Harper visits School Close

Last week, our charity was delighted to welcome Emma Harper, MSP for South Scotland, to School Close, our state-of-the-art apartment complex for adults with learning disabilities.

Ms Harper was taken on a tour of the specialist care service which is set in the heart of Kirkcudbright in Dumfries and Galloway. She was impressed to hear about how the modern approaches to support and leading assistive technology solutions have helped transform the lives of each of the 13 tenants.

The people we support at School Close really enjoyed inviting Ms Harper into their homes. They proudly showed her how they have decorated their homes, their favourite photographs and prized possessions. Sarah, who is really thriving in her new home, told her all about the incredible opportunities she’s had since moving into her very own flat – from completing a triathlon for Children in Need to going on her first holiday.

Commenting on her visit, Ms Harper said: “I spoke with two of the tenants who live at School Close. I particularly listened to the experiences of one young lady who now has great confidence in her support. She has great enthusiasm for her home and her support workers and is demonstrating an ability to be a spokesperson for people in her community.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to School Close to meet staff and tenants, and it is great to see such a valuable service being implemented locally to support a more independent approach to living.

“I would like to offer my support to Community Integrated Care and School Close and wish them all the best with the great work they do.”

Thank you, Emma, for taking the time to visit School Close!
