Gatesgarth celebrates ‘Good’ rating!

A local care service in Cockermouth, Cumbria is celebrating after recently being rated ‘Good’ in all areas by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care in England.

The service, named Gatesgarth, supports up to 5 people with learning disabilities in the community. It is part of the award-winning social care charity, Community Integrated Care, which was recently crowned the Charity Times ‘Charity of the Year’. Gatesgarth get good!

Celebrations were held at the home last week with a party for colleagues and the people they support, after demonstrating to CQC that the home is providing high standards of care which are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Families of the people supported, colleagues and the local community attended the event, which took place at the service, and saw the care team awarded with a huge banner to recognise their efforts.

In the report, Gatesgarth was praised by the CQC for its person-centred approach to care, commending colleagues for “promoting a positive culture that is person-centred, open, inclusive and empowering”. The inspectors were impressed with how the people at the service were “leading and fulfilling active lives and were supported to engage as full citizens within the local and wider community.”

Jane Lye, Service Leader at Gatesgarth said, “We’re absolutely thrilled with the outcome of our latest CQC inspection – I’m really proud of everyone who has contributed to this excellent report. The inspectors were pleased with how we encourage the people we support to be independent and fulfil their goals and aspirations, it’s fantastic to see these great outcomes from the care we provide.”

Samantha Brennan, Community Integrated Care’s Managing Director (NW) said, “At the heart of our services is our commitment to deliver world-class support, the team at Gatesgarth have demonstrated this perfectly and deliver a first-class person-centered service at the heart of the community.”

She continued, “I am delighted that the team have been recognised for this by the Care Quality Commission and would like to say a huge thank you to the families of the people we support and the local community for sending such warm wishes to all at Gatesgarth.”
