Garden Transformation at EachStep Blackley!

EachStep Blackley, a specialist dementia care home in North Manchester, have recently had their garden transformed into a haven by a group of dedicated volunteers.

The volunteers, a group of students from the local Hopwood Hall College, were tasked with making the garden ready for residents to enjoy in the coming Spring and Summer months. EachStep Blackley’s dementia friendly garden is a much-loved and well-used resource by the people supported at the care home. Garden Transformation

15 of the students, who all study Animal Care at the local college, offered to undertake the garden project to gain experience for one of their modules on the course. They spent four days tending to the garden in the wind and rain of Storm Dennis – a strong commitment all round!

The team at EachStep Blackley also approached local businesses to support with the cause and received some incredible donations. Organisation’s such as Deanway Moston, B&Q and Johnstone’s in Crumpsall all contributed a range of items from paint to plants to even a huge delivery of topsoil!

Frankie Conroy, Activities Coordinator at EachStep Blackley said, “The volunteers have cleared out our chicken coop and integrated the new baby chicks with the big ones. They have planted new plants, turned over all the raised beds and made sure the whole garden is super clean – it’s made such a huge difference!”

She continued, “Colleagues, volunteers and family members have all commented on how hard they have worked this week and what a great job they have done – from all of us here at the home we’d like to say a huge thanks as it definitely was not an easy task! And another massive thank you has to go to the local businesses who donated so many great items to the transformation project – the people we support are all thrilled.”
