Edward Warrick is one of Britain’s Best Carers

Edward Warrick inspirational carerOur inspirational carer, Edward Warrick, was a finalist at the recent 2016 National Learning Disability & Autism Awards.

Edward, a Support Worker at Stockton Homecare in Stockton-on-Tees, was recognised in the Newcomer Award category at the glittering ceremony, which took place at the International Conference Centre in Birmingham earlier this month. Stockton Homecare provides domiciliary care to adults with learning disabilities, older people and people with dementia.

The awards celebrate excellence in the support for people with learning disabilities, and pay tribute to individuals and organisations that excel in providing quality care. They are supported by the Department of Health, Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS), Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) and Skills for Care and Voluntary Organisations Disability Group (VODG).

Edward, who only started working in the care sector in February after a career in the Navy, was shortlisted for the positive impact he has made on his colleagues and the people we support. He was put forward for the award by his team in recognition of his commitment to providing quality support and his customer-focussed attitude, as well as his adaptability in this new sector.

Gemma Purvis, Edward’s Manager, said: “Despite having no previous experience working in the health and social care sector, Edward has shown himself to be an exemplary and invaluable member of my staff team. Edward has not only adapted to a variety of roles, including one-to-one support and administration of medication, but gives people great experiences with his warm personality and enthusiasm. He goes above and beyond to offer every person we support the very best, most personalised services possible.”
