Cycling group complete fundraising challenge

A local cycling group from the Dumfries and Galloway community have completing a gruelling challenge to fundraise over £1,200 for Community Integrated Care.

Steppingstanes Youth Cycling Club walked, ran and cycled the 212-mile route of the Southern Upland Way raising vital funds for Charnwood Lodge Care Home in Dumfries. The home supports people with dementia and other age-related needs and funds will be used to brighten up the days of residents whilst in isolation.

Families of the cycling club also took part in the challenge by clocking up miles to add to the total; all together thanks to the effort from the children, coaches and parents, the club completed over 1,400 miles and have currently raised £1400 for charity.

Community Integrated Care is one of the UK’s largest health and social care charities. It has been named the national Charity Times ‘Charity of the Year’ for its impact across the country.

Kerry Higgins, Service Manager at Charnwood Lodge whose son took part in the challenge said, “The effort and commitment that Steppingstanes Youth Cycling Club have put into this challenge is absolutely phenomenal. I’d like to thank everyone for their donations and messages of support, it really does mean so much to our colleagues and residents. I’m blown away by such fantastic support from our local community and the amazing amount raised so far.”
