Dementia Care Home – EachStep Blackburn

Our pioneering new home is in the running to be named Britain’s best dementia care home by the Journal of Dementia Care. This nomination recognises its stunning interior design, community engagement efforts and person-centred care. Find out what our partners and care sector leaders had to say at the launch of EachStep Blackburn…

Best Relative Contribution – John Timms

John has been a tireless advocate for St Luke’s Care Home, which supported his late wife, Marian.

He visits the home every week, helping the staff team and spending time with people we support. This year, at the age of 75, he took on an inspiring fundraising challenge – walking 100 miles from Birmingham to Runcorn for the home. See how the £3000 that John raised has helped transform the care home’s gardens…

Best Relative Contribution – Frankie Conroy and Elaine Young

Elaine and Frankie Young are a mother and daughter who have offered amazing support to EachStep Blackley, the specialist dementia care home in Manchester that supported Elaine’s dad for three years. She says “their care was excellent and heartwarming, so we’ve done our bit to help out”.

They’ve done more than their bit – raising £13,000, volunteering regularly, hosting a family carers group and managing a dementia café! See what happens at their dementia café…

Dementia Care Innovation – Our Widnes Vikings Partnership

This year, we formed possibly the most ambitious partnership between a professional sports club and a care provider, working with the Super League club Widnes Vikings.

Our dementia care homes have enjoyed weekly visits from community coaches and legendary former players, for activity and reminiscence sessions. We’ve also enabled the people we support to attend games and created a fantastic Vikings-themed dementia café. See what this partnership means to Fred, a life-long Vikings fan, who is supported at St Luke’s Care Home…

Manager – Phil Benson

Not only is Phil shortlisted for a National Care Award, he’s also up for the National Dementia Awards too! Phil oversees EachStep Blackburn. His teammates have described him as: “A wonderfully supportive colleague, who is making some ground-breaking steps in our newest dementia care home.” See how Phil has enabled the people he supports to follow their passion for Blackburn Rovers….
