CEO Appointed to SCLD Board of Trustees

Neil Matthewman, Chief Executive of Community Integrated Care, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Scottish Commission for Learning Disability (SCLD).

SCLD is an independent charitable organisation. It is the intermediary organisation for learning disability in Scotland and a strategic partner to Scottish Government in the delivery of Scotland’s learning disability strategy, The Keys to Life. It aims to ensure that people who have learning disabilities can realise their right as equal citizens, and focusses on finding new and better ways to improve their lives.

Community Integrated Care is one of Britain’s biggest and most successful health and social care charities. It supports almost 5000 people across England and Scotland who have learning disabilities, mental health concerns, autism and age-related needs, such as dementia. Under Neil’s stewardship, the charity has committed to an ambitious strategy with the vision of becoming ‘The UK’s Leading Health and Social Care Charity’.

Like SCLD, Community Integrated Care is dedicated to promoting equal citizenship. This year it launched The Golden Thread – a major project that sees it make significant investment in providing specialist personalisation training for all of its colleagues, and give the people it supports real input into organisational decision making. This has included the charity employing a dedicated team of Peer Reviewers, experts by experience, in every region that it provides care and support in England and Scotland.

Neil MatthewmanNeil joined Community Integrated Care in August 2011, bringing with him a wealth of experience gained during a long career within the public sector. He has held a range of senior positions in both NHS service provider and commissioning organisations, including working as Managing Director for Health Services at NHS Blackburn with Darwen Care Trust. Last year he collected the Leadership Award at the 3rd Sector Care Awards, recognising his many strategic achievements at the helm of Community Integrated Care.

Neil Matthewman says, “My entire career has been focussed on promoting people’s independence and providing life-enhancing support, so I am very excited about taking on this new role. It is an honour to be appointed to the Board of SCLD, an organisation that promotes equal citizenship and full lives for people who have learning disabilities. I am looking forward contributing my experience to this vital organisation.”

Chris Creegan, Chief Executive of SCLD, says, “Following a recent review of our role and governance, Neil is one of five new trustees joining us. We are delighted to welcome him to the Board of Trustees at SCLD. Neil brings a wealth of experience which will be valuable to our Board at a time of significant new opportunities and challenges.”
