We Share Expertise at Bild Conference
On Tuesday 19th May, Cairi McKenzie, Head of Operations for Complex Care at Community Integrated Care, delivered an in-person workshop at Bild’s
International Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Conference titled, ‘Growing PBS from within: empowering teams, transforming practice.”
The event brought together international practitioners, experts and sector leaders to share learning and explore best practice in Positive Behaviour Support, with a focus on improving outcomes and quality of life for people who draw on support.
Cairi’s workshop challenged traditional perceptions of PBS as a specialist-led discipline, instead exploring how organisations can embed PBS from within by empowering colleagues at every level. The session examined the approach Community Integrated Care is taking to focus on building confidence, ownership and understanding of Positive Behaviour Support across all teams.
Through an honest and reflective account of this work, Cairi highlighted the importance of shifting organisational culture, addressing long held assumptions about who is responsible for PBS, and ensuring that approaches are rooted in the everyday experiences of the people being supported.
Participants responded positively to the session, with many praising its practical takeaways and authenticity. One attendee described the workshop as, “insightful and incredibly encouraging,” while another participant called it the “standout workshop of the day.”
The discussion also resonated strongly with professionals, with one attendee sharing that the session had, “reaffirmed that we are on the right path” and provided renewed motivation to progress PBS strategies within their own organisation.
Bringing together perspectives from across the sector, the conference provided a valuable opportunity to share learning and inspire new approaches to practice. Cairi’s contribution demonstrated how a people-centred, inclusive approach to Positive Behaviour Support can enable teams to deliver more consistent, high-quality care, helping people to live the best lives possible.
Commenting on the event, Cairi shared, “I was delighted to be part of Bild’s International Positive Behaviour Support Conference and to share our approach at Community Integrated Care. For us, Positive Behaviour Support should be co-produced and shaped by the people we support and understood and implemented by every colleague, every day. By building confidence and capability across our teams, we can deliver more consistent, person-centred support that reflects what truly matters to people. It’s encouraging to see others across the sector on the same journey, and I look forward to continuing to learn from one another as we embed PBS in meaningful and sustainable ways.”
