Leicester Supported Living Service Shortlisted For Community Champion Awards

Our Leicester Supported Living service, Gilmorton, has been shortlisted for Progress Housing Group’s Community Champion 2026 Awards, recognising outstanding colleagues and community impact.

Gilmorton is a dedicated team of more than 50 committed colleagues, providing exceptional support to 13 people with complex needs, including autism, physical disabilities and behaviours of distress. Their nomination reflects the service’s consistent commitment to high‑quality support, independence and inclusion.

Celebrating an Outstanding Team

They transform lives through exceptional, person-centred care, and go above and beyond every day – from supporting people to go on dream holidays with their families, to securing volunteering roles and hosting regular community events.

Everything they do empowers the people at Gilmorton to live their best, most independent lives, with dignity and choice at the centre.”

Individual Nominations

As well as the team nomination, Support Workers Omar Darboe and Melanie Noon have also been shortlisted for individual Community Champion awards.

Gill Edwards, Service Leader for Gilmorton, said: “Mel has worked at Gilmorton for more than 10 years, and her commitment knows no bounds. She is a huge advocate for the people we support and a true inspiration.

Omar is incredibly generous with his time and energy. Families deeply value his approachable nature – he was even invited to attend a family wedding because of the meaningful relationships he builds. His selflessness makes a genuine difference every day.”

The Progress Housing Group Community Champion 2026 Awards will take place on Friday 20 March 2026 at 6pm, hosted at The Mill, St Catherine’s Park, Lostock Lane, Lostock Hall, Preston.
