Speaking at Care Talk Conference

Mark Adams, Community Integrated Care’s Chief Executive Officer, joined Care Talk’s latest conference – ‘From New Normal to New Future: Coming out of Covid Conference’ – on Wednesday (10th November).

The live conference, hosted by Care Talk Magazine and the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), saw key influencers from the sector come together to discuss the challenges and opportunities that have arisen from the pandemic.

Mark joined the speakers to represent our dedicated workforce; highlight the challenges faced by our colleagues on the front line, share the findings of our ground-breaking Unfair To Care report, and outline the urgent need for reform in the sector.

The panel of speakers discussed topics including, staying ahead of the curve; innovative responses to Covid; achieving social care reform; and whether Covid has brought health and social care together.

Chaired by Paul Burstow Chair SCIE, the speakers included:

  • Mark Adams – CEO of Community Integrated Care
  • Sir Simon Stevens – CEO of NHS
  • Prof Deborah Sturdy – Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care
  • Sally Warren – Director of Policy at The Kings Fund
  • Sir David Behan CBE – Chair of Health Education England
  • Prof Martin Green – CEO of Care England

Following the conference, Mark said:

“The social care sector is currently facing an unprecedented crisis, losing over 34% of its workforce each year. Earlier this year, we published our ground-breaking Unfair to Care report which found that frontline care workers are frequently paid £7000 less than their counterparts in other public funded sectors. Since then, we have continued to lobby for fair pay for the sector and more recently, our organisation announced a £5 million pay investment in our charity’s workforce.

However, we firmly believe that our frontline carers should be better rewarded for the job they do, and this can only come through bigger financial investment from the Government. I am pleased to have joined the panel at Care Talk’s latest conference to share our charity’s insights, represent our workforce, and continue our campaign for an urgently needed reform of the care sector.”

The conference was held at the QEii Centre in London on Wednesday 10th November from 8.30am to 4.40pm. Find out more here.
