Carer Smashes Fundraising Target At Boxing Event

Laura Muratu, a carer at our Winchester Apartments in Hampshire, helped to knockout cancer in Reading on Saturday evening, as she took part in a charity boxing event on her 29th birthday to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Laura Muratu post fightLaura threw a number of good punches against her opponent, but with nothing to separate the fighters, the bout ended in a draw in front of over 1,000 spectators at the Rivermead Leisure Centre.

The event was organised by Ultra White Collar Boxing, the most established organisation in the UK, which has run hundreds of events since 2009. They are Cancer Research’s biggest fundraisers in the UK, having raised over £2million alone in 2015.

The highlight of the night for Laura however was smashing her initial fundraising target of £1,000. Through the support of family, friends and our charity, who were her first sponsors, she raised a fantastic £1017.87.

Following the fight, Laura said: “After weeks of training, it was finally great to get inside the ring and take part in this event. I was nervous to begin with, but the crowd really spurred me on and the atmosphere was brilliant. It’s a birthday I’ll never forget!”

She added: “I can’t thank people enough for supporting me, especially staff and colleagues at Community Integrated Care who have helped me raise so much money for a great cause.”
